We're home (minus one Big Apple Ballerina)...

Well, we are home...back from the land of Big Apples.  I would love to say it was an awesome, fun-filled trip, but honestly we were burnt out from moving and the weather did not cooperate so we pretty much did nothing we had planned for our one full day in NYC.  We made the best of it, but weather was certainly not on our side.  We were drenched by the time we came home on Sat.night.  I have to say I guess we have been lucky the last 3 years with perfect weather.  And at least we have done most of the touristy things those years. But still would have been nice to have better weather for our one vacation of the summer.  Oh well.  Here is a pic of the kiddos in Times Square on Sunday before we zoomed off on the subway to take our Hays to SAB.  I feel a little weird saying this, but I do love Times Square. It's such a bustling fun place full of the unexpected...and it makes me realize that I am a city girl at heart.
Our girl on Sunday after checking in and getting settled in her 18th floor room. Gosh, she looks so old to me compared to the first year we dropped her off at age 12. :)
It's good to be home tonight, but there will be a vacancy in our new home w/o our ballerina around.  Good thing we have the old cardboard clone to keep us company! She feasted on pizza with us tonight...Little Caesars (Hailey's favorite..not!) :)

More pics and memories to come...

NYC, here we come! :)

I know I just posted pics of the day (yesterday), but it's officially Friday and our road-trip-day is here....in 6 hours we will be on the road and letting our Hays settle in at her 2nd home. I know she is excited...I am excited for her. Every passing summer has brought such great challenges and growth at SAB.  Can't wait to see what this one holds....

(pic taken yesterday at IU, but the fountain... :))

Hailey's last day of summer (sorta)

Well, today is unofficially Hailey's last day of summer...weird.  But by the time she gets home from SAB/NYC, it will be time to start school (we get back the night before we start...ugh!)...we don't know if she will be starting school then, but for now we plan on it. So we made the best of her last day of summer...she got to sleep in a bit....I gave these two above a haircut out back...first haircut in the new house! haha :)
This cute kid took a ride around the house on his moped (AG-style :)) lol :)
This handsome guy made some cool lego creations :)
This beauty played a little AG...and got her doll ready for NYC...we plan to go to the AG store there...we have never been the other 3 years....
The ballerina beauty went to the new Disney-Pixar movie with her bud.
We took our NYC girl out to dinner...at our fav. Mother Bear's Pizza....yumm!  Daddy actually was able to join us, but got called away due to the AC guy finally arriving at 7pm. (yes, we have ac again, but probably won't feel it til we leave at 6am)...and I am not confident that in 1-2 weeks we will have no ac again...
One last shot with our girl outside the house before she leaves us for the next 5 weeks...
We had a little ice cream celebration in her honor...along with a little bubbly :)
 Cutest little waffle bowls...
I love our bar-counter...it's like it was made for 5 kids--and for us! :)
Did I ever say that we got the barstools that I loved from the beginning. They are perfect in here :)
All packed and ready to go....She has 6 bags...the rest of us have a total of 2...how does that work?
All ready for NYC...although I think someone has Orlando on the mind :)  Adios til next Wednesday!

The "no-AC" blues :(

Well, I have a bad case of the "no air conditioning" blues (aka the heat and humidity grumps).  The timing of this ac issue stinks too bc we need to get packed and honestly being in the house is the worst...it's not so much the heat that gets me, but the lack of air circulation.  Ugh.  The only good thing about the last 24 hours is the temps went down...we actually got sleep last night thanks to that!  But today was hot again...and tonight seems like a hot one.  Anyway...trying not to complain, but honestly my outlook on life seems not-so-good when it's hot in my house.  I think the above little person sleeping in our bed most nights this week does not help. At least he is peacefully slumbering...
Hays had a big day today....I rarely take pics of these types of events at age 15, but...
She got like half her hair taken off....not sure she meant to, but she did...and she got some big layers too...are ballerinas supposed to cut their hair? Hmm....
She's beautiful though...even with half the hair....not sure how ballerina buns will go now...
Yep, totally frozen AC. Bad news about this is they probably cannot even work on it til Friday and we will be making the trek to NYC then.  This means no ac til next week...ugh :(
I found this pic today going through old pics in our closet....I remember this picture well and how our kitties loved to look out our front door in GR. They were such good kitties.  I miss them both. Today I swear I saw a cat cross our kitchen.  I am not used to be without them both yet.
We had a small memorial today in honor of Syd.  We printed out some old/new pics...got her fav. catnip toy made by Aunt Sue (covered in her furry fur)...and also a part of a plastic bag(she loved to lick bags!)...a piece of her special food (she had very bad allergies so she had to be on this food...Shelb told me I needed to put bacon in her memory box bc she love that more, but it made her break out in scabs :)...and Shelb made the little gravestone and we picked some roses from our bushes out front.....
We toiled over finding a good spot in our bare backyard for Syd. Shelb would not bury her outside our lot line where we put Cupcake-the hamster a month ago....so we dug a shallow grave near the corner of our lot, where the kids are begging to put a willow tree (like our last one at the old house which was the burial place for all our other animals)....Shelb helped me bury Sam's memory box here....the ground was super hard so I pray we don't get a good rain that washes this away...
We probably should have waited for Kev, but I thought he was working late so we just had the memorial w/o him....he is a better grave digger...
The girls helped arrange the flowers on the gravesite...we picked some wildflowers too...
We had a moment of silence...
Loggy was perplexed by the whole ordeal...
He kept saying "cat...cat...cat".  I am not sure he even knows she is gone...
Then we got in an argument over what we were going to say about Syd...what we "liked best about her"....Dylan went first and said he liked that Syd was "nice". Apparently Shelb was going to say the same thing and she went storming off accusing him of copying her.Yes,this is how our summer has been going lately...even in moments of death. :)  Hailey said "Syd was annoying...but in a good way." Nice, Hays.  Always the sentimental one:)
Not the nicest backyard yet, but we do have a beautiful wildflower area behind us...if I know Syd, I bet she'd try to eat them....miss you, Syd.
It was the first day of summer session 2 for violin....
Someone got two more prizes for doing the reading program at the library!  Yes, he has a really bad cut and black lip after falling at the pool yesterday.I almost think he could have had a stitch or two on his lip area...poor guy.  He is a walking bruise/cut!
Awww....I told you he was fascinated by Syd's gravesite....I found him out here at dinnertime just staring at it....sweet kid:)

(I went in Shelb/Ash's closet this evening and found this hanging up...Shelb had made a memorial hanging for our kitties....I think she loved them more than we all knew...she is a lot like me...we don't talk about it all, but we feel deeply)

Praying tomorrow the weather is cooler and maybe our ac is defrosted enough to fix....so we can get packing and get our girl to NYC!

Goodbye-Syd-ey-kitty :(

Today we sadly said our goodbyes to one of our first "babies".  Sydney went to kitty heaven to live with her sister today. :(  Very sad.  I am not exactly sure what happened to her in the course of the last couple days, but she went downhill fast.  She was chasing her tail and very feisty on Saturday, but by Monday she could hardly walk.  She struggled to get to her little box last night and I know she was so embarrassed when she had to pee outside bc she could not use her back legs.  We felt so bad for her, but we knew the signs as this is what happened to Sam back in October. This morning as we sat and talked to her and held her, she almost talked back...telling us "it was time".  She truly was the sweetest kitty.  Even in her final hour she was talking to us...chatting with us...I almost felt like she was saying, "thanks for a good life" :)  She (and her sister) blessed our family and made our lives richer by their presence.  They were our first babies...we got them right before we got married....we never intended to come home with twin kitties, but when we saw these sisters together, we had to have them (seriously...is that pic of her above not the cutest?  Who could resist that little  puffball of furr?_)  The sisters stuck by each for almost 17 years and were the sweetest and best kitties ever.  Now tonight for the first time since before we were married our home is pet-less.  This is weird for us...sorta sad. The kids are begging for a kitten already, but I know we are in a season of life where pets are not ideal.  But we surely will miss our kitties....miss our Syd-ey kitty.  Tomorrow we will have a memorial for her in our backyard to honor her life and the joy she brought our family.  We will miss you Syd...they way you liked to get in our face and talk to us (see 2nd pic above of her sitting on my lap the day after we moved a few weeks ago:))...and the way you batted your paw at us and expected immediate attention and some good petting. :)  And the way you chased your tail and flashlight-lights.  The way you often had dingle-berries hanging from your furry  rear :)  The way you were always so patient with our 5 kids...even though I am sure sometimes they drove you crazy (especially #5 :)).  You were a good kitty...the perfect one for our family.  I hope you are licking some catnip with your sister in kitty heaven tonight!

A laid-back (good-sad) day...

Well, had I written this this morning it would have been all sun and smiles:):) But....life happened over the course of 12 hours and I feel tired and defeated....It was a wonderful morning...laid back...it was the first day since school let out that we had nothing going on and nothing to run to...no alarms set. Blissful.  Hailey finally got to sleep in for the first time.  The kids made tents and just played around the house.  Hays got herself mostly packed for NYC. We went through some boxes, did some laundry, washed some dishes...normal life-stuff.  We went on a fun walk on our trail. Then the bad happened...our AC went out (again) on a very, hot humid day....we think it cannot be fixed til weare back from NY....and Syd (our kitty) is sick.  She peed all over the floor and cannot walk tonight...it all happened very fast.  She was fine all weekend. So very sad. I think this is her last night with us.  Feeling sad tonight...

Happy Father's Day!

It was a lovely day...full of family, good food and appreciating the dads in our lives. Makes me very thankful for my sweet hubby and father of my kids who has been my rock this last year of moving/building... and to my awesome dad (who looked to be having a great dad's day fishing with my bro and family) and who has always been the best dad around and is a super pops...and to my awesome dad-in-law who raised two great boys and is an amazing Poppy!  So thankful for these guys and for a day to honor them!

We're gonna miss her!

A week from today we say goodbye for the 4th time to our NYC ballerina.   Time is flyin' too fast. I have much more to say about our day and our girl...but this mama is tired....and off to bed with the father of my kids. Happy Dad's day to all the daddies out there. :)
