Miss this German girl!

By the time I have time in my day to "whatsapp" my girl, she's almost ready for bed or even fast asleep.  It's def. been a transition knowing she is an ocean away.  But from the looks of it, she's having a great time and taking every advantage of this extra season of ballet joy she gets to soak up in Germany.  Miss her every day, but so happy to see her happy! :)

Busy, Busy, Busier than ever...

I feel like I'm working a full time job between my actual work and my volunteering positions.  Plus it's just been a busy week of activities and XC meets, sickness and now a dead van.  Life is fun!

Dylan's XC meet, Shelb's H.S. open house and just trying to balance life...

Life is a delicate balance.  We are not balancing it well now. Someone left the house in tears this morn.  We are all plain tired.  Life with 5 will just continue to get busier.  But we must start to find rest.  That's my soapbox for the day.

In other news, Dyl did awesome at his 1st meet (yay for no rain and storms this time!).  He cam in 13 out of 65, which I thought was good for his first time running and given he is not really a runner or has ever trained.  The Pops in me, told him he could do better and he needs to beat a few teammates next time, but he has a really good team so that will be challenging.  The boys won.  Yay!  I think his time was 12min53seconds.  It was hot too...mid 90's. Proud of you, Dyl. I'll pst pics later.
Shelb had her high school open house too as well as XC and orchestra.  Life is never dull and bedtime is never early.

Dyl's first XC meet (sorta), Shelby's 3rd XC meet, Ashley's 3rd horse show (2nd place!), Soccer, bday parties, rainouts and just plain tired

Saturdays are shaping up to be just like another weekday...even worse in some regards bc we have to get up at 5am to get a high schooler to her XC bus.  Fun.  She was equally not-excited.  She likes to sleep in like her mama.  But she put on her happiest face, grabbed her kleenex (bc she has a head cold) and off she went!  Go, Cougars!
We opted out of going to her meet bc we didn't want to drive an hour and a half and then find out it was rained out--which was likely (I think this happened to the boys team, but the girls made it through), plus all 3 other kids had activities at the same time.  I hope she understood.  I really hate to miss my kids' activities.  Sorry, Shelb...next Saturday it's all about you! :)
I headed out to the Bloomington Speedway with my Dyl.  His first XC meet.  Normally they are not on weekends or in the morn, so this was a stretch for him too.  Isn't he a cutie runner guy though.  He really hated not wearing a shirt under his uniform.  Can we say farmer tan? :)
He is a pistol when it comes to pics lately...his friends help him...they hide him well :)
I finally got some of them to pull him out from behind the pole and smile :)
He was very serious about knowing the course and was talking to one of his junior coaches about it.
Still being difficult with pics...I told him one day he will regret having all back-side photos :)

 And drinking photos...
 And goofball photos :)
He is not alone in the goofball area apparently :)
 Go Varsity boys!
He was pretty excited to be a 7th grader on the Varsity team!  Nice moves, Dyl!
Something here tells me has a little ballerina in him?
Great Varsity team....but this was when the lighting started.  30 minute delay.  They were just about to start.  Varsity girls had just got their run in.
Taking shelter...and another 30 minute delay. We knew the inevitable was coming...
More lightning and thunder.  And then rain.  Bye bye first race, bye bye speedway.
I tried to put on a happy face. He did not. He was bummed. :(  He really loves running.
Then I told him that since he didn't run, he could claim to be the winner.  He liked that!  Double thumbs up!

While I was at XC with Dyl, Ash was across town with daddy and Nina and Poppy Stegs at her 3rd horse show--the back-to-school horse show. She was not thrilled she got Lulu.  She has only ridden her once and she is not a good show horse.  Not sure why they gave her this one since we asked for about 5 other ones yesterday and they were all in their stalls.  She got 2nd place. I was proud of her especially since Lulu did not cooperate and Ash hasn't had many lessons over the summer.  Way to go, Ash!
We met Nina and Poppy at Square Donuts to celebrate.  I think Dyl wanted ice cream, but it was only 9:45am.  Seemed weird to have ice cream in the morn.
He feasted on his 3rd bfast.  The kid is eating us out of house and home!  We love our square donuts!
Poor girl, struggles to eat her donuts with her new braces :)
Thanks, Nina and Poppy!  And way to go Dyl, Ash and Loggy (though poor Loggy's soccer game was canceled as we sat here...ugh...I was really excited to see him play...he got a goal last weekend when we were in Germany.
We got a call to pick up our Shelby from school...she was back from her meet and happy that she did not come in last place.  Her one goal every week! lol  Especially since this time she was sick and "threw up a little in her mouth". Lovely.
We had to have a Steg fam cool down run.  Daddy even joined in.  I guess I have a family of runners.  Whodothunk!?
Daddy forgot to take pics of Ash with her medal...so I took a few outside the house.  Gotta love the new blue and pink braces now! lol :)
 She's a bit of a goofball too! :)
It was birthday central today!  Lo was off to one of his best friend, Hannah's bday parties!  He loves his lil spanish kinder immersion buddy!  She was also one of his preschool buddies.  So thankful for sweet lil' friends!
He also told me he LOVES barbies!  I guess I should be glad he has a Ken in that pink car?!
LOL!  I went upstairs to find him dancing to the Barbie dreamhouse music.
While I was at the party with Lo, D and A made a movie. Dyl is prepping to put together Hailey's screenplay to play at Halloween at our drive-in.  Cool!  Shelb was at a bday sleepover.
Daddy made a yummy new dinner.

A busy day.  Stunk that it rained and stormed and things got canceled, but we made the best of it.  I am now prepping for my preschool week and ready to go to bed.  5am wake-up calls are too much on a Saturday!

Things that make my heart happy today :)

 A couple instagram happies...
Hailey and her fellow Dresden apprentices (2 others from SAB/NYC, and the others from Belgium, Japan and Spain)  So exciting that they are all starting their first ballet jobs :)  Yay!  Still can't believe our Hays lives an ocean away and is doing what she set out to do when she was 3.  I take none of it for granted and love that God opened this door for her to Germany.
And I just adore this pic of Hays and her roomie performing at SAB's workshop this past June.  Truly a superb pic of them and just makes me so grateful for the life Hailey led in NYC for so many years and for the wonderful people she met along the way.  Feeling grateful.  Also, TGIF!

Braces, lots of XC and the busyness of life

This week has been a jolt back to reality.
I'm realizing with every passing year that life is just getting busier.  Having 5 children to juggle can be a lot.  I love my kids, but I stink at managing the schedule.  This year I've just become kinda numb to things. If we miss something...oh well.  I just can't keep up with it all. And for some reason my body much prefers German time. I am up early every morning...like 3am early.  Never knew readjustment to reality would be this tough.  I need a week-long nap.  Or maybe I just need to return to Germany for the year? :)

I'm a preschool teacher...and I'm very tired!

I have totally gotten out of the groove of blogging.  And I am totally on German time still.  This is not ideal for the first week of getting back in the groove of life and starting a new job.  I would say I wish it was the weekend, but our Saturday is not looking relaxing at all.  As crazy as our European trip was, I wish I was back there! ahhhhh!

We're back from our European adventure!

Wowsers, was that an amazing, yet stressful adventure!  I'm thinking we Stegs are destined for a life like that, but I still hold out for hope that one of these days we'll have a blissful relaxing vacay. This was not one of those. But in the spirit of positive-ness, I will say we had the most glorious time in Paris with our French friend, Nathalie!  And we did get our girl all settled in her new German surroundings.  Dresden is gorgeous.  Like out of an old German storybook.  Beautiful old buildings, lots of "beer and bretzels" :) and very few people that spoke English.  So much to say about this wonderful adventure...but time is never on my side. We came back fully exhausted and very jet-lagged, thrown full force into the school/activity sched and I start my new job tomorrow.  Wishing for life to slow down. Wishing for a week of sleep.  But my one praise is that our Hays is settled in her new flat and made it all her own with IKEA decorating.  And she seems to love her little German ballerina life over there.  Very thankful.  Next week we would been dropping her off at Calvin.  I love big surprises that rock your world.  This new path brings great peace to my heart.  Thank you, Lord!

1st day of School and on our way to Europe in 24hrs!

Yikes, a crazy day.  First days always are...but I have never felt quite like this. Losing my mind!  But the kids all had great days at school (crazy that we have new high schooler, middle schooler, 4th grader and Kindergartner!)...and one who is German bound!  Life is nuts!

Losing my mind...completely

I have never felt so ill prepared for a trip...and a trip to Europe is not one to feel that way about. Ahhh. Feeling stressed!

What were we thinking?

Getting home for a major vacation (at 3:30am), another grad party this weekend, school starting and leaving for Germany...how can we get this all done in a week...I'm wiped and overwhelmed. :(
